Miracles in the rubble
Six days after the earthquakes struck, the critical 72-hour survival window has technically passed — but Venezuela keeps proving the odds wrong.
Aaron Levi Cantillo was rescued alive after 106 hours trapped beneath collapsed rubble, following a 43-hour operation by emergency crews. In La Guaira, an 18-day-old baby survived more than 30 hours buried beneath a collapsed building before her cry led rescuers to her. Her mother was pulled out minutes later. Both are recovering in hospital.
The death toll has now reached 1,719, with 5,034 injured and tens of thousands still unaccounted for. Search dogs from Mexico's "Los Topos" rescue group and teams from Turkey, Argentina, Switzerland and the US are still working around the clock alongside Venezuelan civilians digging with their bare hands.
Frustration with the government's response continues to grow. Officials claim over 14,000 military personnel have been deployed, but many residents say they've seen little evidence of it on the ground.
Every rescue is proof that hope is not gone. Every donation helps keep these teams equipped and working.
